I've always been a huge fan of pulp art novel covers. I don't know why, but they've always appealed to me. I think the first I remember seeing was for Foundation by Asimov. I think I've mentioned here before (see here) that when I was growing up I would spend summers with my grandfather in the country. He was an avid novel reader and I became one as well. We would go to the paperback bookstore in the town nearby and trade in all of paperback books and get new ones for a discount. I think that might be where I first became aware of my liking pulp covers.
There was recently a twitter meme that I was a part of with my friends (you can see my twitter here, but be forewarned, I don't post about writing, mostly it's animals doing weird and silly things and people doing weirder and sillier things, with a smattering of politics thrown in for good measure) . . . regardless, the game was to type into Google "Pulp Cover Art" then your name. What's funny is that just the other day I almost posted a pulp cover just for fun . . . then decided to go with the more staid 60's or 70's era cover (see here)! Then this showed up as a challenge.
So I won't inundate you with the horrible and pornographic images that come up when my first name is searched in this way, but I found a few I thought were worth sharing. Having a name so close to Philip K. Dick made for an interesting search. Three of the covers I chose had him as the nexus.
I love that first one up there if only because it is so surreal and odd. The next two come from a series called The House Dick. Never heard of it before, but that is so 1940's era that it appealed to me. Then there was the Amazing Stories one with the Army guys finding the robot underground. Cracked me up.
But nothing beats The Zap Gun in my opinion. I saw that cover and guffawed. I have no idea what's going on with that zap gun and I kinda don't want to know. But a better collection of pulp art I have not found.
