This is a funky one. Usually writing posts go here, while development, learning, and other posts go to the other blog. So, I'm not sure where to post this. Maybe I'll post it in both blogs just so I have it properly cataloged.
Those of you who follow this blog assiduously will know that I find time every now and then to go hit the Starbucks to write. Starbucks, as you may well know, has a special place in my heart. Why? Several reasons, namely, and mostly because I was up in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1990's when it was just taking off. You know before their coffee started tasting like warmed-over tar.
Regardless, I've mentioned that I like to get away to a neighborhood Starbucks on the west side of Houston to write.
Well, it's no longer a solo endeavor. I have started working with a workgroup. . . a writing group.
Why?
Well, for several reasons.
The first reason is that I saw the power of the study group I was in for my Ph.D. work. I feel fairly confident that I would have completed the Ph.D. without a study group. I'm a really good and confident worker alone . . . I am very mission and success-oriented. . . and I was intrinsically and intrinsically motivated. So, I think regardless of the study group, I would have finished this program of study.
But, having a study group not only made some parts of the process easier, but it also made it more fun.
It is for this reason that tI went out and found a writing group. We call ourselves the 99 SWAG. Why? For several reasons. Since we have members who are in Katy, Sugar Land, and even one up in CyFair, we only meet at Starbucks off of Grand Parkway 99. And of course, the SWAG is Starbucks Writing Aid Group (yeah, the "aid" aspect seems a bit weak . . . it's a living title . . . a work in progress . . . we've only been around a couple of months).
Nevertheless, I look forward to writing more about our group in upcoming posts. So far it's been extremely positive.
