I go there atleast once a week. I have to take my son to basketball practice and down the way there is a Starbucks. And it’s perfect for writing.
Most Starbucks are horrible writing caves. Most use hard straight back chairs that hit just about every human back in just the right way to be the most irritating and uncomfortable chair ever. They have no carpeting so all noises reverberate off the concrete floors and walls and make everything louder. The speakers are set at a volume that’s too loud and is certainly a distraction and irritant. I think they’ve done this on purspose. If they have comfy chairs, there’s only one or two.
I read somewhere that Starbucks were originally conceived of as a place to hang out. Not anymore. Now they’re money making operations and they need to turn things over quick. So people sitting around is not good for business.
This one I visit in Katy is actually quite good for writing. They have eight big comfy writing chairs. So, right off the bat this is a good one. Usually there aren’t many people there so it’s nice for writing. Plus it’s convenient yet out of the way. I love going there and writing AND people watching. GREAT for when you need to add color to a character. Just look up and describe the person who just walked in. BOOM you have a great character.
So, that was my answer. Find a comfy Starbucks, grab a mocha, sit back and get your 500 words in. After a while it will add up to something worthwhile.
Today, I already had my 500 from my time this morning by the fire with the cat and dog, so now I’m up to 1000.
