Bubbles

"Thin line between heaven and here."

Because of work, life, and school demands I have not had enough time to read for fun. I have still been writing for fun. In fact, I'm hoping to release a book of short stories soon, so my writing life is still going full bore. And I've started writing this blog again, so if anything, my life has changed positively for writing, but not as much for reading.

I miss finding those "darlings," those little lines that are meaningful and potent. I miss finding those lines about the morning (see here) or looking about first lines (here) and last lines (here).  But, I'm still on the lookout for those potent lines.

One came up the other day whilst we were watching The Wire. Bubbles, who has just come back from seeing where McNulty lives, is back to the streets and to the way of life of a junkie, and he says;

"Thin line between heaven and here."

Great line. It says so much about how quickly someone can fall from grace, how quickly drugs can fuck up someone's life. But mostly, it's just a good formulation with alliteration. Love it.
