My biggest takeaway from the Community of Practice survey was the extent that others utilize the LMS for communications to learners.
Our organization has a fairly simple yet data deep LMS. Our LMS has been collecting user data for over 20 years and has millions of records. Learners who may change jobs can still access all of their training records with us at anytime.
All this being said, we don't use it for anything other than records management. The fact that so many others use an LMS for communication and for interacting with the learning community is surprising to me. Although it makes me realize that there is a lot left for my organization to do, at least this survey lets me know that any work we might put in place for this effort will be worthwhile.
