As the savvy reader will know, I use this space to catalog information for novels and ideas for stories. There my Great Lines thread (HERE), my Last Lines thread (HERE), Evershade thread (HERE) and now the Everyday Sox thread (HERE).
Well, as a part of the story I'm developing for Everyday Sox - it's already written, but it needs to be refined - there is a character who is the foundation for the main character, the lodestone, the stabilizing agent. He's a speaker of plain truths.
Well, I ran into a Twitter thread the other day that was quite perfect for this character. It was called, 7 Hard Truths Everyone Must Learn . . . and well, they hit me. I want them to be a part of this character's make up.
1) Life isn't Fair
2) People Will Let You Down
3) Relationships Are Simple
4) Pain Equals Growth
5) Being Afraid is Normal
6) "I'll be happy when . . ." is a Lie
7) We All Eventually Pass-Away
It's numbers 3 and 7 that I really keyed in on. I like Number 3 because it's so true. Relationships don't have to be complicated. In fact, complicated relationships, the drama, the crazies, who wants that? No one. The simpler, the better. Keep it that way and you have a great opportunity for something special.
Number 7 too is interesting and would be ideal for this character in Everyday Sox. Live each day as if it is the last, don't let things get away from you. Regret as few things as possible in life, enjoy the ride, and most of all enjoy the people in your life, the friends, the lovers, the people you intersect with . . . because life goes by so quickly.
