According to AI this meme is "mostly true" . . . for example AI told me that many of Pablo Picasso's pieces were just sketches. BUT, when you consider that it's 150,000 . . . even the fact that they're just sketches is impressive.
So, lets see, I have three novels, and a book of short stories (HERE). Compared to 1,200 songs or 150,000 pieces, that hardly seems to matter.
In terms of writing, Isaac Asimov, who's Foundation Series I love, well, he wrote over 500 books and an estimated 90,000+ letters and essays. He wrote every single day, often producing 2,500–5,000 words per day. His advice was simple and probably one I should take to heart regarding Sunset Perfet: "Write. Keep writing. Finish things."
John Steinbeck treated writing like manual labor. For East of Eden alone je wrote a long journal entry every morning before beginning the novel. Those journals became nearly 200,000 words by themselves. The writing before the writing helped him find the story.
Anthony Trollope was perhaps the most disciplined writer. He woke at 5:30 every morning, timed himself with a watch, and wrote 250 words every 15 minutes. If he finished one novel early, he immediately started the next. Using this method, over his career, he produced 47 novels.
My favorite however, and probably the one that will most motivate me is Ray Bradbury. Bradbury completed 27 novels, more than 600 published short stories and assembled his stories into roughly 30–35 collections.
He challenged writers to:
Write one short story every week for a year. It's impossible to write 52 bad short stories in a row.
Whether that's literally true is beside the point. His belief was that quantity, combined with honest reflection, naturally improves quality.
