Back to the Grind

Lately I’ve had to hang up the ole type writer and get back to the dissertation. Actually this turn of phrase doesn’t work. I’ve had to hang up the creative writing and focus on the academic writing.

I was talking to a local Houston author friend, Shina (see her book HERE and order it!) and I told her how jealous I was. I think she works full time as an author and that’s the dream isn’t it? Full time writing. Full time creative writing even better.

But right now I have a dissertation defense to prep for. Last week of November, another round of oral exams, this time defending my research. I wrote about comps back in May and June (see HERE). TOUGH. Well, I get to do it again. Yay?!?!

Academic writing is TOUGH. So much tougher than creative writing. Creative writing is so loose and easy. Academic writing is tedious and soul crushing.

Oh, you want to write that VR has a better opportunity to provide long term recall for blue collar workers? . . .  Better have a citation to back that up. You want to even mention the term “blue collar worker” . . . Better have a citation. What do you mean by long term recall? . . . Better have a citation. Don’t you mean instead of long term recall, the chance for long term recall?

UGH! It’s so mind numbing. But, hopefully, by the end of next month it will all be over!
