Importance of Communication

Recently, my friend Kelsey and I spoke about communication. Communication, especially good communication, has the power to make any project extremely successful. Conversely, poor communication can lead to all sorts of strive, problems, and delays. Poor communication in collaboration for training leads to awkwardness, problems, and misunderstandings. It's so important, and yet so often communication is overlooked as a skill set that must be developed.

Our organization trains technicians and operators in the petrochemical and refinery industries. We have noticed that in most cases no contracting organization has programs to help develop communication within their employee base or with their leadership.

We offer a class that is built around how to properly communicate within our industry. It's built for our industry, with the employees within our industry in mind. The way that a "white truck" supervisor will communicate with a technician in the field is vastly different than the way that a accounting department supervisor might talk to an accountant in an office, and our training makes sure to cover those and work on those differences.

The soft skill of communication is so key to not just projects but collaboration within and outside of training. Good communication is make or break and I'm glad you brought it up. What do you see as the primary ways to ensure good, consistent, worthwhile, and positive communication?
