I thought the first game would be the one that could go either way. It went the way of the Texans. I'm a tad surprised by Urban Meyer. I thought he would be a better coach. Looks like he had lots of people snowed.
Regardless, after that first game my predictions are mostly true. The old age of the team has left them with a backup quarterback who is not ready to play, and isn't that good. The running backs are perhaps the worst in the league. There are defections if these rumor about Zach Cunningham are true. And the coaches are lost. It's a downward spiral.
I was thinking though that it would be fun to wrap all of this nonsense and controversy into my next novel Sunset Perfect (see here).
Here we have with the Texans a team that is absolutely tanking. Why? Because the owner chose a VP (Easterby) over players. There have been several star players who decided to leave or were forced out by the team because (I believe) of Easterby and his relationship to the team. The star quarterback has "character issues" and could be on the verge of jail time. Who was in charge of character for the team? Same guy. Stars are still looking for ways out, why? In large part (I believe) Easterby. He may have good intentions, but what are good intentions worth? Ultimately? Is he sacrificing the team, the fans, and the players for a vision of "good" that isn't worth it? It's only his vision, right? He, and this situation is great fodder for novels.
