First Lines Second Time

This will be my second time to start a first lines post. The first time was for the other blog (see HERE) and it was one of my favorite series.

I read a blog post by Jay Nordlinger and all he did was talk about the importance of great first lines. I ho-hummed it. I think the totality of the work matters so much more than that first line. I've changed my mind. The first line, the first passage, the first paragraph, the first chapter, they're all critical.

This is my first in my new writing series. So it will be a sub-series. It's a good one too.

No, this isn't a book I had to read. I've been reading a bunch of statistics book, but this is not one I have had to read . . . thank goodness. It looks like a doozey.

For those who can't read it well in the pic above, it says:

Ludwig Boltzmann, who spent much of his life studying statistical mechanics, died in 1906 by his own hand. Paul Ehrenhest, carrying on the work, died similarly in 1933. Now it is our turn to study statistical mechanics.

The only thing I would have thought of to make this better would if they had added, "we hope to not follow too closely in their footsteps."

Again, first in the series, the original series is at the old blog, and worth a look (see HERE).
