It's a fun book. Hate the cover, but the writing, and the style, and the small village in England is all there. No horse racing of course, but it's a fun book to read. A curmudgeon police detective is a good foil for the reader to follow.
What I really liked and might be something I try, is that the entire plot takes place in just three or four very packed in days. Most of the plots that my books follow are several weeks or months long. I wonder if three days of packed action might be more fun for the reader.
I like this second cover better. Makes more sense and establishes a sense of mystery and desolation that is all throughout the book.
Overall, it makes me think another Frost might be in my future. Just to see if the second novel is as good as the first.
