Right now I’m working on three different stories, all of which I’m hoping to turn into finished novels. I figure that since I’m getting to the end of my PhD and there will be fewer and fewer posts on adult learning, . . . Hopefully there will be just as many on self-authorship, . . . But in the spirit of finding daily content . . . I guess posting about those three (hopeful) novels will keep my blog filled.
So I guess I’ll give a quick synopsis of each and then throughout the days further develop each book as we go.
Welding Artist
The first I’ve been talking about a lot lately. A welder. A lady who lives with her parents in the country. But they have an extended family and lots of friends all around Texas. She’s an artist. And her welding, her art, her parent's friends, and her family, drives her to have to go all around Texas, and in each place, she has to solve little (or big) mysteries. The first book is tentatively titled . . . The Welder Brother. These would be light, not at all gritty, but not quite humorous. I might try it as a humor but I'm not sure yet.
What I like about this one is that it is a natural series. I remember before I went all in for self-publishing, agents, and editors were constantly advising that writers write books that could easily be series. Helps with marketing and establishing an audience. My books are of course a “loose series” that are based on adventure racing, sports, and the like . . . With a sprinkle of the military . . . much like Dick Francis's books are based on horse racing. This one has the option to be more truly a series.
Everyday Sox
This one is a romance. I’ve not really gone into romance, but I’ve always wanted to write one. I love hallmark rom-com’s and my dream is to write a novel like one of those. This one is about a lady who is at a low point of her life. She has left LA and is moving to Colorado. She has nothing. Lost her job. Lost her boyfriend. Lost her dog. Etc etc etc. She can’t get lower. Then while driving to Colorado she has a wreck and ends up killing the other driver. Just horrific stuff. And the rest of the book is about her trying to pick up the pieces of her life and deal.
I like this one cause it’s got some fun items. I wrote a lot of it as a part of NaNo a few years ago, but it would require quite a rewrite I think. Maybe that’s what I need though. Instead of writing from scratch something to rewrite. I’ve been posting little nuggets about this one for a while. Much like I did with Evershade for Vapor Trail.
Sunset Perfect (or Kingdom of Deceit)
This one is the most well-developed, but the furthest from being finished I think. It’s been rewritten several times, but it’s got the most well-developed stuff, I think. It’s about an ex-NFL player, an ex-Army guy who is trying to find his new life. His “sister”. . . . Step sister really . . . Becomes a love interest and he struggles mightily. It would be similar to my other novels. But, boy I’m having trouble with it so it keeps getting shelved.
So there they are. Everything that I’m working on. Let’s see what comes out of em.
