So, the biggest thing that I should provide an update on with this status post is about my 300 words a day goal. How did it go? Is it positive?
Overall it was a good . . . and IS a good exercise. First, I'm stunned that 300 words really isn't that many words. I can knock out 300 words in no time.
The other aspect of this little exercise is that it keeps the focus of my attention on the novel so much more.
I was reading in Jim Thayer's Essential Guide to Writing a Novel, that authors should focus on one project at a time. I've been focusing on two or three different projects, . . . creative writing projects, . . . this is on top of the many projects . . . including writing projects for work. This little goal of 300 words a day has certainly helped me stay focused on Sunset Perfect/Kingdom of Deceit much much more.
Have I kept at it?
Not really . . . but kinda. What's that mean? Well, on the trip to Maine I wrote like 2600 words. Then the first day there, on the balcony at the inn, I wrote 500 or so words. BUT, the next day, the next, and the next. Zero.
So cumulatively speaking, I've been hitting 300 a day . . . in total word count. But, there have been some missed days.
That's my next goal. Gotta do it each day. That's the next big goal.
