Seems a Bit Short (and Spooky)

Something remarkable happened. I got an apology from someone and it was wholly inadequate. Like meteorically unimpressive. I was thinking about it and and wondering what to respond or think about it ultimately, when I ran into a Seinfeld clip that summed it up perfectly.

What's funny is that it wasn't just summed up perfectly about how to think about it . . . it was the EXACT SAME APOLOGY! It was spooky infact.
What was the apology?

Well, I'll let George describe it. Hear his words in the clip below and you will hear, execpt for a slightly different preamble, the apology I got.

It's black because of licensing, but it's the content and the words that matter. It's weird really. His apology, with basically two lines and a couple of "reallys" and a few "verys" is the same thing I got. Good thing too, what if the apology that I had gotten was only one "really" and "two verys" . . . then it wouldn't mean as much. Or does a "really" mean more than a "very?" There must be a matrix somewhere right? I'll go ask a third grader.

What am I getting at? That it was a throw-away apology. It meant little because little thought or effort was put into it. What if I wrote "her eyes were really, really dark," instead of "she had eyes that were black as coal." Which is more meaningful? What if I added, "her eye were really, really dark. Very dark." Does it help more? It's pointless isn't it? It's pathetic.

I'm not asking that everyone be a wordsmith, but I would ask that a bit more effort than a "really, really" be used, especially for an apology.

Ultimately, how should I feel about it? Well, Jerry thought it was "a bit short"  . . . I think it's a bit inadequate to say the least. Like I said, after 6 years of this nonsense, it's more than inadequate, it's pathetic.

I find it funny that what happened in real life to me was dreamed up by comedy writers decades ago. Funny old world.
