Mirror Neurons

We got a chance to watch a video of an interview with Dr. Sally Baily about theater and acting.

About midway through the interview Dr. Bailey says, "the emotional content is more important because that's what changes people's thinking and that's what gives people a true look into somebody else's life not (just) the facts ma'am." I'm not sure I agree with that.

Although having an emotional understanding is good, especially for analysis, I think relying too heavily on it for "changing people's minds" could be a very real problem. I believe that it is quite easy to change people's minds using emotion, and in fact I think facts can be shifted and re-arranged to meet the emotional story, using emotion to sway folks is not always the best method to utilize. As in all things I'm an advocate of moderation. There should be a balance between emotion and 'just the facts" because relying on one or the other too much will be doing a disservice to the consumer.

I have never heard of "mirror neurons" but I predict I will be a huge fan of the term the more I find out. I've always been a huge fan of "walking in another person's shoes" to speak. Going into narrative transportation sounds like walking in another's shoes to a deeper level. This would be a powerful tool in helping other understand the challenges, obstacles, lives, and rewards that subjects have to deal with.
